Gĕguritan is a form of metered poem in vernacular language. ''Gĕguritan Cangak'' is a retelling of ''The Heron and the Crab'' story from the Pañcatantra, a collection of ancient Indian fables. The story is set in a freshwater pond inhabited by fishes, a crab, and a cangak bird (heron, ''Ardea cinerea''). The Cangak was able to convince the pond inhabitants to move into a better pond he found by carrying them one-by-one in his beak. In reality, there was no better pond and the Cangak would eat the fish he carry. The Crab discovered the heron's deception and strangled the Cangak to his death.

Description

Bahasa Indonesia

English

Gĕguritan is a form of metered poem in vernacular language. Gĕguritan Cangak is a retelling of The Heron and the Crab story from the Pañcatantra, a collection of ancient Indian fables. The story is set in a freshwater pond inhabited by fishes, a crab, and a cangak bird (heron, Ardea cinerea). The Cangak was able to convince the pond inhabitants to move into a better pond he found by carrying them one-by-one in his beak. In reality, there was no better pond and the Cangak would eat the fish he carry. The Crab discovered the heron's deception and strangled the Cangak to his death.

The manuscript was completed on śaka year 1912.
